Family Day in Tamworth will have an added event to go with their parade, afternoon activities and awesome fireworks. Co-race directors, Bill Jones and Kathy Johnson have established a 5K race to the day. Bill of Tamworth, a 10 time marathoner, having done 4 of the 5 world class races (Boston, New York, Chicago & Berlin, Germany) and Kathy from West Ossipee, an experienced life long runner and an avid hiker of all the 4000 footers, are seasoned athletes. They wanted to expand the day and have a healthy & fun activity everyone could do and exert some energy to start the day.

The race will begin at the historic site of the first ordained pastor in Tamworth, at Ordination Rock. This huge rock located right outside of Tamworth Village on Cleveland Hill Road was also the location of the original Tamworth Congregational Church. The building (currently the Town House) was moved down to the village in 1851 across the street from the new Church; that was completed in 1853. Ordination Rock will be the location to start the race, then down toward Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm turning onto their Binsack trail, then through the quaint village of Tamworth passing The Enoch Remick House, Tamworth Historical Society, The Barnstormers Theatre, Cook Memorial Library, turning at the Veteran’s Memorial down Rte 113 to K.A. Brett school and the finish line.

This event will cost $10 to register and all runners/walkers will receive a t-shirt. The registration form is available at www.tamworthcc.org. The race will be supported as well by the local businesses and individuals who wish to donate. Proceeds from the race will be used to support the Tamworth Congregational Church Restoration Fund.
